Day 8

Today was my first MCT’s observation I was fully prepared, but at the same time, I was exhausted because I slept for only three hours. I spent the night in making activities it takes a long time because I’m a perfection person who cares about every single detail which something I can’t change because it defined who I am. The lesson goes very well everything happened as I planned especially differentiation and following time duration precisely. I was so satisfied when I read my MCT’s feedback even if I didn’t get excellent in one area but in general, it was positive. It was a little bit funny that my MCT commented on my confidence. In fact, before the lesson, I was extremely anxious, and that causes me to throw up and felt unwell until I started my teaching session.

During my break, I set on the class to prepare my lesson plan for Wednesday class which will be my second observation. As usual, planning takes time, but I believe that the more I spent in planning and preparing for a lesson the more successful it will be. The difference this teaching practice in preparation I had teacher’s guidebook which helps me in breaking down learning objectives and explain what each level group should reach the end of the lesson. Based on this knowledge, I can prepare activities efficiently by focusing on specific learning goals.

I complete the day normally where I work with my MST during her teaching sessions and aided students. However, I was required to teach as usual the other section 3 J the same math lesson I had done on my morning observation. I prepared all necessary resources and materials, and I work hard as I did with first section 3 I. Unfortunately, the lesson was so bad students were out of control in many time I faced many challenging behaviors I tried my best, but it didn’t work as perfect as I aimed. At the middle of the lesson, I was disappointed when two students’ broke thermometers even I warned them several times to be careful, but it wasn’t enough. My action on this accident, was taking points from these students accounts on ClassDojo I know it wasn’t enough that why I told these students next class they will not have access to interesting activities and they will work on writing tasks.

When I reflected on this incident, I realized that what works well with one section doesn’t guaranty success with the other section. I learned that not all students could use hands-on resources appropriately that why I should plan activities depending on students’ personalities regardless of their age. After I finished the hands-on activity, I moved students to pictorial and abstract activities which was much better. When I finished my teaching session, a student hit my MST with a pencil on her face which can give an idea of how challenging was the grade three J. My MST informed the social worker about this accident, and she contacts with student’s guardian directly.

At the end of the day, I get my MST’s feedback about the 3J, and I was surprised that I get excellent in many areas but that didn’t change the fact that it was my worst lesson so far.
