Day 17

A new day in my last week in Al-Qimma school and I have mixed feeling of happiness and sadness. Happiness for almost finishing my fifth teaching practice successfully and sadness to leaving students who really make me enjoyed the six weeks and figured out how much I like teaching. Today, the school schedule was completely different because they put 4 sections together and planned a schedule for teachers to teach them in one class.

What caught my attention today was the relationship between teachers and stuff in the school. I noticed couples of time and in different incidents that there were troubles on the communication. For example, I noticed today some teachers were angry today because when they set the schedule, it was not fair as they said. Some teachers didn’t take any classes while another take three periods. They claimed to the planner, but nothing changed. I realized today how sometimes the real teacher life would not be fair and equal as I imagine. I hate the feeling of not treating fairly it makes me hate the place, and it usually affects my performance. However, I learned from the teachers how to deal with similar situations. A teacher gave me advice: “Never be silent and speak up for your rights, even sometimes it will not make a difference but at least do an action rather than feeling upset.” Also, this teacher shared with me many stories about what she experienced during ten years of teaching. After this conversation, I realized that work environment would be a real challenge and it will include a lot of drama which something I hate and I should avoid.

Today my MST teach two periods where she taught a science lesson about seasons. I respected how my MST do her role professionally until the last day. I appreciated how she respected these students who choose to come to school by using their time in something useful and informative. Also, my MST was marking the English exams for the grade three that conducted in the last week.

I had a chance to discuss the process of marking exams which were totally different than what I thought it would be. For example, I thought each teacher would mark her students’ papers, but it wasn’t like that. All grade three teachers met together in the library, and each teacher will mark one to two sections for all grade three students. For the first sight, it seems complicated, but when I think about it I find a fair way because of teachers cannot give their students as they want, and students will have equal opportunities. I believe that giving equal teaching opportunities should be the aim for all educators.
