Day 15

Today was the end of the fifth week I arrived early, and the first thing I did was arranging books because it was a big mess. I observed my MST asked students to arrange books but, in many times, they didn’t follow her orders. I think it will be more organized if the teacher makes baskets or shelves to arrange books instead of but them randomly on the table. I think to recommend my MST about this issue, but I was afraid she would not accept my advice, so I kept it to myself.
I was responsible for taking students to the assembly and observed them while my MST was working with the group of students on question a day website. When I think about the benefit of this website I realized students didn’t benefit as much as they should because they didn’t use it at home. I liked the idea of using technology in education but if parents didn’t take part in this process it would fail and that at occurred in my classroom.
The most important thing I did today was working with students on reading their leveled-story. My MST divided students into different reading groups, and she gave different stories for each level every week. Students take these stories home, and at the end of the week, the teacher asked them to read it for her. Today my MST allowed me to take this responsibility by guiding students and assist their reading. I put two to three students who had the same stories together and asked them to read page by page. During the reading, I asked some questions to check their comprehension. It was a great opportunity to practice teaching reading and understand the process of assessing reading. For instance, when students read their story fluency, I moved them to the next level by giving them new stories. Also, it was a real chance to observe the differences between students in two sections and understand that students’ needs are different.
Furthermore, I liked it when my MST applied differentiation in math and gave students different interesting activities. It was the first time for me to observe my MST applying differentiation in math. What I liked most was observing my MST dividing students into the same groups I established in my teaching sessions. I felt that I bring positive changes to the classroom and the teaching methods.
