Today my temperature was high, and I had the bad flu I was too tired, but I must come to the school anyway. I started the day by taking my MST’s class to the assembly and observed them while she was working in the class with a group of students on a question a day website. Then I observed and aided students during the first period while my MST was doing other work. After that, my students had an official test from ADEC.
After the test, my MST had an emergency situation, and she left early. I asked Ms. Julie the vice principal about what I should do, and she moved me to another class. I found it is Nadia’s class and I was excited to experience different classes and figured out how is it different than my class. The first thing that caught my attention was the classroom organization. For instance, I liked the way MST putting baskets for the books and labeled it with the class section or the subject. I always believe that classroom management represented the teacher personality and explained what type of teachers she is. However, I found that she struggled with behavior management and there wasn’t a precise system. After the class, I talked with the teacher about her behavior system, and she explained one of her strategy where she gives out tickets for the good behaving and the students who collect more tickets will get rewards such as watching a movie. I was wondering if this strategy works well and the teacher confirmed it is not working as much as she wished. Also, she explained that her class behavior is really challenging, and she already claimed to the administration.
When I go through such experience where I observed a classroom teacher struggling with managing learners’ behavior I asked myself if I was in her situation what steps can I take to limit misbehavior. According to my short experiences in teaching, I figured out that each class is different and what works for some students don’t guarantee the success with other students. However, it is the teacher responsibility to find the right behavior system for her class. This semester I was able to create some useful strategies which work very well in my classroom, and I am planning to use them in my next teaching practice. At the end of the day, I joined the MST to mark exams and it was a good chance to understand this process.
