Day 14

Today was an important day for my students because they had an English exam that designed from ADEC. The whole day was about conducting the exam and teachers prepared students by doing a mock exam before they started the real one. I observed how students were nervous and they remind me of myself when I had exams. The school takes these exams seriously by preparing the right environment. For example, they check if students were feeling well and send some of them who had flu to the nurse to ensure they were able for the exam. I think it was a good action from the school toward their students because it showed how much they care about learners.

Another noticeable point today, was not allowing classroom’s teachers to stay in their classes during exams. Also, students’ teachers were not allowed to stay in classrooms either. The aim of this action was to ensure that teachers were not offering any type of assistance to their students during official exams. In my opinion, it was a good way to ensure that exams circumstances were appropriate, and students had equal opportunities.

After the exam, I had access to a copy of the exam, and I found that the exam was higher than the level of the majority of students. I discussed that with my MST, and she also had the same view about the level of difficulty. Also, she told me that in the last term many students failed the English and science exams and the result was extremely low. I always observe how curriculum are above students’ abilities as second language learners and the results of official exams represented this obvious fact.

I hope that the new changes in the leaders of education can bring changes, especially to the curriculum expectations. I believe if they analyzed the exams’ results that conducted this year they can easily deduce the need for making changes. In my opinion, the main aim of these changes should be making curriculums reachable by the majority of students. I feel disappointed when I found how smart are many students but the fact that education is not appropriate for them negated all their talents and intelligence
