I started this day as always by attending the assembly, but I noticed my monitor school teacher chose five students and asked them to stay in the class. The teacher asked students to work on a website called brain pop junior. It created for grades three, five, and nine and it focuses on math and science. Students should access this website at home and practice by answering different questions that covered their math and science curriculum. The school found that the average of students who use the site at home is low. As a result, the academic principle in Al-Qimma school recommended teachers to allow students to use the website inside classrooms. I think this type of sites are useful especially if parents are cooperative because it enables students to review what they learned in school every day but in a fun way.
During this day, the weather was great it was raining outside students were excited and stand beside windows when they had chances. I noticed how that distract students’ attention a lot especially when reckless drivers start a show in the street. As a result, my monitor school teacher chooses to close curtains to keep students focused on lessons.
An exciting teaching strategy caught my attention today when my MST played an audio a reading session instead of reading by herself. Students listened carefully and followed with the reader in their stories. I think it was great because the audio record included reading with expressions and it presented each character with a different voice. Also, I liked it when the teacher paused the audio to ask questions and check comprehension. As a student teacher, I tried to save every useful teaching strategies in my mind and wanted to apply them to figure out if it fits well with my teaching style or not.
In many times, I tried to cooperate with my MST as much as I can, so I work with challenging students in 3 J who refused to finish any writing work. I felt happy when they listened to my instructions and completed their work successfully. My MST thanked me for working with these students and shared how difficult it is sometimes only to have one teacher with 26 students. I totally agree with my MST in this point because I noticed how some students need extra assistance which something classroom teachers can’t offer all times. Another thing, some students in 3 J class had learning problems, but they aren’t diagnostic officially yet because their families refused that. I think this is a real issue for students as well as the teacher. I asked myself all day, if I face a similar situation in future what actions can I take to help these students.
Today Ms. Julie the academic vice principal called all HCT’s students for a meeting where she discussed the school expectations from us. For example, she emphasized that we should attend PDD meeting every Sunday and we aren’t allowed to leave school during break time. As a student teacher, I always respect schools that entered me to their place, and I understand my responsibilities by following the school’s rules.
