Day 5

In the road, I dropped the sand that I bring for an activity on the car, and it was a big mess I don’t know if I should laugh or cry... that how I started this day. What I noticed this morning was changing the location for the assembly to outside area because the weather was good. In the first period, my MST taught a writing session where she presented a picture on the board, asked students to describe it, and she wrote answers on the board. Students copied from the whiteboard and then they draw a picture. I figured out that the writing abilities of students are really high which something surprised me a lot. This class level is higher than what I experienced in public schools in previous teaching practice.

The most important thing today was applying my first math teaching session. It was my first time to implement differentiation with grade three, and it was a good lesson as my MST wrote in her feedback. I learned many things from this experience, especially how to give instructions to several leveled groups which something they didn’t use to in their daily classes. Also, it was great to improve my behavior management skills by applying different techniques. Another valuable lesson, I learned how to use CRA model in teaching math which something I experienced for the first time, and I extremely loved it. I noticed how this model help in delivering new concepts smoothly because it allowed learners to deal with concrete and pictorial objects before they moved to abstract problems.

In addition, I observed my colleague Nadia in her math session, and I completed a required task for practicum course. During this observation, I noticed how it students’ levels were different than my students’ levels even if they were all in grade three. Also, I noticed how Nadia managed her class successfully by applying good strategies. I completed this day as normal by cooperating with MST and attending classes, playtime, and bus duty. At the end of this day, I get feedback from my MST about the lesson I taught in two periods with two sections J and I. I wasn’t satisfied because I didn’t get any excellent in MST’s evaluation form except in one area. These feedback ruined my day because I don’t want what happened last semester to occur again. It makes me rethink about my lesson, tried to figure out my mistakes and understand my MST’s comments to improve any weakness.
