The first thing I noticed today was a note in the attendance sheet about a parents’ meeting that all student teachers have to attend next week, and also when I met the vice principal, she emphasized that the meeting is mandatory. Honestly, I was not happy when I found out about the meeting because it will be after the school day and it will be for three hours, but I have to be at the meeting.
I arrived early today as usual, and I checked the materials, interactive whiteboard, and the document camera that I needed for my teaching sessions today. Unfortunately, the video didn’t work even I was using the website that my MST recommended, but within the new system that MOE is applying all the websites even, educational ones are blocked. My monitor school teacher contacted the IT services, but they couldn’t fix the problem, and it will take a few days before we have access to the website. As a result, I prepared another plan which is showing pictures of the concept instead of the video it was the only option I had in this situation.
My monitor school teacher introduced the new vocabulary for the unit which are deforestation, overpopulation, pollution, and protection. The high-level section was better than the rest of the five other sections in comprehending the meanings of the new vocabulary. In my opinion, the teacher should break down the vocabulary for the low-level sections and instead of teaching five new words, it will be better to focus on two words per period.
Another important thing that caught my attention was when I went to the canteen area to buy a bottle of water; I was surprised that they were only providing healthy food such as fruits and vegetables which was not available last week. In my opinion, it is an excellent step in teaching individuals from a young age how to make healthier decisions.
Also, during the day my monitor school teacher asked the other student teacher and me to prepare the grade reports for the six sections, and it was a big mission, but at the end, we were able to finish it.
