Today was a regular day there was not a lot of things happening, only normal classes with the weekly visit to the library to do question a day task. During all the six periods, my monitor school teacher completed teaching the last type of ecosystems and asked students to copy from the interactive whiteboard a description of the grassland ecosystem.
The only thing that caught my attention was a mother who attends the school every day with her son and today I had a chance to chat and have conversations about her son situation. The mother explained that the school asked her to come with her son every day or he will be dropped out because of his misbehavior. Her son is a student in my MST’s class, and I have been observing him for five weeks, and I didn’t notice extreme behavior, but my MST explained that he had many incidents that required these procedures.
I am entirely disappointed with the school’s procedures, and I think it is a bad idea to force a parent to come to the school instead of curing the problem of its roots. Although I am not a specialist, I can tell that the student is just hyperactive and if he gets the right diagnostic, his misbehavior can be corrected and controlled. The school has special needs teachers, but I never saw any one of them in my MST’s classroom even she teaches six sections of grade four, and also these teachers didn’t provide my MST with individual learning plans for any students which is unprofessional.
In general, based on my observations I didn’t feel that the school gives priority to special needs students which is in my opinion, a huge mistake that cannot be accepted. I feel bad for these students who didn’t get the necessary accommodations and modifications in their daily schedules, and I believe that will severely affect their future.
