Day 11:

Updated: Nov 3, 2018

Today the United Arab Emirates is celebrating an official occasion which is the flag’s day, and Al-Ezzah School celebrated all educational institutions. There was no teaching all day, and there was a different schedule that included different events, and all students were wearing clothes of the UAE’s flag colors. During the first activity, students were required to create posters about the celebration, and at the end of the day, the best drawing got prizes.

At 11 o’clock all students, teachers, and the staff were standing in the front area to sing the UAE national anthem and raise the flags. It was interesting to observe how students were excited about the celebration and how they interacted with teachers’ instructions smoothly. I think this type of celebrations are essential for young students to establish their knowledge about their identity and to where they belong.

After the celebration, a funny conversation between boys caught my attention especially when it was about football which is one of my interests. The boys started asking each other about which team they support, and one of these students’ answer was: “I support myself because I always win.” I found his response hilarious, smart, and unique and I think I will remember his response for a long time.

At the end of the day, two students wrote me letters and drew pictures which I found it something nice and gave a good feeling that I have some influence on my students’ hearts especially when I read their amazing words.
